Rewriting URLs with Apache

As some of you have probably noticed I use Wordpress to manage this site.

Which is great, I like it, and my friend Jordan (hyper123.net) has a system that automatically updates it for me. Sweet. All is well, right?

Well… it was until today. The problem is that Wordpress works, and makes URLs “pretty” by rewriting them (which it does by putting a .htaccess file in your root install directory).

Wordpress for non-blogs?

The IFaceThoughts website has a great post up explaining how the Wordpress content management system isn’t only for blogging anymore. It can be used for what some still consider a “normal” website too. The advantage of Wordpress is that it makes it so easy to update content quickly, and let’s face it: changing content is what keeps people coming back.

New theme!

Jordan (hyper) created a new skin for me as he thought the previous one I was using was too dull :P
I told him I’m just a dull person but he insisted, so I said I’d pay him in cookies if he made it.

Tada, I think it looks awesome. Send me your feedback. Anything broken? Anything look weird in different browsers?

Get paid to blog!

You heard right. You can get paid for posting articles on your blog.

A new company called PayPerPost will pay you to write articles about products that their advertisers want you to write about. That is pretty cool. I may actually do it. It might be a good way to recoup some of my hosting costs. Of course I would only post positive reviews for products that I’ve actually used, and indeed liked. If anyone has any more information on this company I’d love to hear about it.

Here is the overview from their site:

“Get Paid for Blogging. You’ve been writing about Web sites, products, services and companies you love for years and you have yet to benefit from all the sales and traffic you have helped generate. That’s about to change. With PayPerPost advertisers are willing to pay you for your opinion on various topics. Search through a list of opportunities, make a blog posting, get your content approved, and get paid. It’s that simple.” - http://payperpost.com/page/blogger
